Our History
Heckington Players began as a small village group when a few enthusiastic thespians met in the village hall, with a number of these original members still involved today. Actually, the group was technically Heckington Players part II as for many years before the original ‘Players’ were staging village concerts and pantomimes under the guidance of a talented village shopkeeper named Elsie Hatcliffe. It was decided to build on the past success and carry the name Heckington Players into the future and what a future it became! From very humble beginnings the group started, with no money the Players relied on the support and goodwill of many of the village locals. Each member paid 50p per week and thanks to a friendly village pub landlord who offered an upstairs room to rehearse in Heckington Players embarked on its first production. The first show was two one-act plays called Outpatients and George, followed by a full-length play – Continental Quilt. In 2023, the group made the move to a new venue a short drive down the road to Great Hale Magna Village Hall.
